World Recycling Day & Sustainable Electronics

Today, March 18th, marks World Recycling Day. A day dedicated to raising awareness about recycling and its importance in environmental conservation. We’d like to use the occasion to highlight our LIFE EPICS project, which is focused on reducing electronic waste and promoting a circular economy in the electronics sector.

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is a growing concern due to the rapid turnover of technology and the scarce and hazardous materials contained within electronic devices. As the world observes World Recycling Day, we urge consumers throughout Europe to manage and reduce their e-waste.

Campaigning for a circular and sustainable economy

The newly launched LIFE EPICS campaign by Euronics addresses the environmental impact of electronic products through various initiatives:

We are committed to training thousands of in-store professionals to better understand sustainability in electronics. This training will help staff guide customers towards more sustainable product choices. This way, we promote informed decision-making towards eco-friendly consumption habits.

Furthermore, our RepAir and ReLife Corners in stores across a few European countries will offer repair services and refurbished electronics. By focusing on extending the lifespan of devices, we provide consumers with practical options for reducing e-waste. Encouraging consumers to repair rather than replace will lead to significant environmental and economic benefits due to the extended lifecycle of products.

Finally, our planned Sustainability Index will help consumers to more easily identify sustainable electronic products. The index will score products based on various criteria such as repairability, recyclability and others. Through the information conveyed by this index, our consumers can make informed choices targeting more sustainable products.

A Collaborative Effort Across Europe

The LIFE EPICS campaign is a joint effort involving Euronics GEIE and other European Euronics members. The campaign's initial focus on 5 countries is part of a broader plan to expand sustainable practices across all member countries.
